Šiauliai Jesuit School
Šiauliai Jesuit School is the newest work of the Lithuanian and Latvian Jesuit province. The public primary school was operating in the Jesuit property. When the municipality decided to close the school, Jesuits took over in 2016.
The SJS is a primary school with over 160 students from 1st to 4th grades. In addition, there is a pre-school class and two groups of kindergarten. More than 200 children in total are educated in Ignatian tradition by 23 teachers and 5 co-workers.
The school is currently led by the lay women as a headmaster. She had previous experience in the Catholic middle school in Šiauliai as deputy headmaster. The spiritual guidance is provided by the Jesuit who serves at the community church in Šiauliai. Teachers are learning and following Ignatian pedagogy in teaching process. Parents are actively invited to join retreats and Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.
The goal of the new Jesuit school is to introduce Jesus to a young person as a friend whom he/she can trust, love and follow.
The building of the school was in the very poor condition when it was returned to Jesuits in 2016. With the support of Renovabis, Lithuanian-American and local donors Jesuits were able to achieve sanitary safe and children-friendly environment.
